Disappointingly for two reasons. One the obvious in the BNP presence, which most unwelcome.

Second, no Green Party presence - perhaps Irlam and Cadishead lacks the cultural capital of Chorlton.

tony kelly is the third conservative candidate since they overturned the once safe labour seat in 2007. i feel let down by the local conservative party by this. how can a councillor make a difference in cadishead if they can't even offer continuity?

i was wrong about the conservative nomination. i didn't realise how the councillor system works but iain lindley has explained it to me by email and i felt i should make amends for my inaccurate post:

"Hi Steven,

Many thanks for your e-mail.

Salford City Council elections take place by thirds - each ward has three Councillors who serve for four-year terms but they are elected one at a time.

Councillor Hill was elected in 2007 so she serves as your Councillor until she is up for re-election in 2011. Councillor Bramer-Kelly was elected in 2008 so she is not up for re-election until 2012. Both Liz and Lyn are committed local residents who are working really hard for the people of Cadishead and Irlam, and I know Tony would be an excellent Councillor for the people of Cadishead ward.

Labour have not listened to local residents in Irlam and Cadishead and I hope that you will reconsider and give Tony your vote on Thursday.

Kind regards,

Iain
