Another report relating to the environmental benefits of waterbased transport, referring to Peel Holdings plans to the expand their use of the Manchester Ship Canal. I can't help thinking about the irony of Peel's position here. The company's pernicious interference in the May local elections brought into question the democratic process. Peel is now running an explicit anti-congestion charge campaign in the run up to the referendum, sponsoring a video, posters and petition in the Peel owned Trafford Centre to pursuade local people to vote against the charge and so block a planned £2.7 billion investment in public transport in Greater Manchester. Green travel indeed - as long as you go by water - or more specifically the Peel owned Ship Canal.

This blogs presents the unfurling corporate history of Irlam and Cadishead. In a way it is a vague and amateurish homage to the film and book Robinson in Space (in which Irlam and Cadishead get a brief mention). The method is simple. Whilst acknowledging the towns' rich personal and sporting heritage, this blogs aims to provide commentary on the industrial development of Irlam and Cadishead's economic identity in a complex global world. Comments are much appreciated.
